Attention Scouts and Scouters!
The 2022 Klondike Derby and Cub Scout Winter Festival is right around the corner!
PLEASE NOTE THE EVENT ENDS AT 3:30PM.
PLEASE MAKE SURE SCOUTS ARE COMMUNICATING WITH THEIR PARENTS TO COORDINATE PICK UP FROM MCHENRY TOWNSHIP PARK AFTER THE CLOSING.
Overnight camping will not be available at this Klondike.
The Sycamore District Klondike Derby is an annual event held by the district during the winter months and is based on the heritage of the Klondike gold rush. BSA units have been running Klondike Derbies since 1949.
The Klondike Derby consists of multiple stations (towns) where patrol sled teams must test their scout craft skills and leadership abilities, earning points towards a total score.
Troops and Crews: When entering your Unit Participation Fee please enter you Unit Type as the "First Name" and Unit Number as the "Last Name". Contact Phone and Email should be the main contact's information.
Each unit must transport their gear (registration pack for the equipment list forthcoming) on a home made sled pulled by the scouts. The guidelines for this event and the construction of the sleds are in the information/registration pack, which will be available soon on-line as well as at Roundtable.
We will have lots of NEW activities this year to challenge your Scouts and Crew Members! The tentative plan for activities are as follows:
- Pioneering
- Snow Snakes
- Shelter Building
- Fire Starting
- Tomahawks / 2 Person Saw
- Snow Blind
- First Aid / Emergency Response
- Sled Race
- Knot Tying
- Timber Hitch Relay
An unlimited number of Sled Teams will be allowed to register. Minimum required for a Team consist of no less than 6 youth. Don't have enough for a whole team? Consider asking some AOLs to attend with you. Another option is to check with other units in your area and team up with them.
This year we will have a Cub Scout Winter Festival on Saturday. Our Cub Scouts will have specific programming geared toward their program. Get your snow shoes, boots and other winter equipment ready for this chilly, but fun filled event.
