BALOO Training:
BALOO for the Befuddled
Does the thought of spending a night camping with a crew full of 5-11 year olds fill you with dread? Does the phrase "pitching a tent" make you wonder who will catch it? Don't know a day pack from a packed day? Is nature just not your natural habitat?
Come join us at BALOO for the Bewildered, where we aim to make a miserable night outdoors a distant thought instead of a constant fear. If you haven't embraced the outdoor component of the Cub Scout program because you don't have camping skills or desires, let us help you. We'll break down the tips, tricks, and skills involved in camping, outdoor cooking, and outdoor activities in simple, practical ways. You'll maximize your enjoyment and minimize your discomfort with the tools from this class.
Not everyone needs to be a master woodsman to learn to enjoy a simple outdoor outing with your Cub Scouts. If you're a novice camper, an unhappily experienced camper, or a solo camping pro overwhelmed at the thought of camping with Cub Scout age children, let us help you build your skills and confidence so you can enjoy the Cub Scout outdoor program with your Pack.
This BALOO weekend will specifically assume that campers have no or little camping experience. All are welcome to attend.
Attention Cub Scout Leaders: Now your Pack can plan outdoor camping activities IF one or more of your leaders are BALOO (Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation) trained! Yes, Tigers, Wolves, Bears, and Webelos will be able to participate in Pack outdoor camping activities with a BALOO trained leader!
The new BALOO program is redesigned to better aid leaders trying to have a great time in outdoor activities with their Packs. The first part is an online component, taken at my.scouting.org, which covers the classroom basics of planning and organizing a Pack Campout or outdoor outing. The second part is the hands-on practical camping weekend where participants get to learn the how-to's start to finish of having fun in the outdoors with Cub Scouts. Outdoor elements of the Cub Scout program get special attention.
